Transverse axes are the support groups of the RS2E. They are the bedrock of the network and they provide all the necessary expertise to bring to an end the projects initiated among the various research areas.
Safety: Its activities are mainly centered on i) setting up advanced electrochemical tests/protocols, ii) post-mortem studies of batteries and supercapacitors in order to determine the key to their dysfunction and bring optimized solutions.
Theory: Tuned to the experimentalists’ remarks, the «Theory» group develops methods and strategies in order to i) guide the search for new materials, ii) understand reactivity at the interfaces in nanostructured electrodes, iii) simulate the experiment, and iv) predict the electrochemical and chemical stability of the electrodes and electrolytes.
Analytical platforms: They develop new characterization measures (ex situ and in situ) at the cutting edge of technology, such as in situ methods of i) battery imaging via RMN or RX, or ii) observation and characterization of the interfaces evolution (morphology and composition) via HRTEM or HREELS.
Pre-prototyping: The different units are in charge of the interface between the academic researches and the tech transfer center (CEA, IFPEN, INERIS). The goal is to integrate new electroactive materials inside demonstrators (batteries prototypes, supercapacitor, etc.) that are reliable and reproducible, in order to assess and demonstrate their applicative potential.
